The director of the upcoming Aquaman movie shares some insight into the movie and we’ve got it for you right now. It looks like we could be seeing Aquaman battling multiple villains when it comes to his 2018 solo film. While promoting his upcoming film, The Conjuring 2, director James Wan shared a few tidbits regarding his next project, the 2018 Aquaman movie, with CinemaBlend. While he didn’t go into any specifics, he did reveal that one of the things he loves about the world of Aquaman is the really different, really interesting characters including the villains saying quote, “I’m not going to tell you which villains I’m going to play, but they’re super cool. They’re very larger than life, but they’re unique.” The fact that he said “villains” as in more than one has us excited, but so does the fact that he says they will be “unique”. One major complaint about superhero movies in general has been the lack of strong, unique villains, but hopefully that will change with Aquaman. Some villains previously rumored for the film include Aquaman’s half-brother “Ocean Master” and “Black Manta”, a former resident of Arkham Asylum who uses a special suit in an attempt to conquer Aquaman’s homeworld of “Atlantis”. We’ll have to wait and see if either or both of these villains wind up in the film, but what we do know is Aquaman will be very different from every other superhero movie we’ve seen so far thanks to its underwater setting. James Wan went on to say that its uniqueness is one of the main reasons he wanted to do the film and also why now is the right time for it explaining quote, “There’s a reason why they’ve never made a movie about this until now, because technology has never allowed us to tackle something this complicated and so, because of that, it feels like something different, and that uniqueness is what I’m excited about.” While we did get a hint at what Aquaman’s underwater realm will look like in Batman v Superman, he will get a proper introduction in next year’s Justice League set for November 17th. Jason Momoa will play the underwater hero and we will also be introduced to Amber Heard as “Mera”, Aquaman’s wife in the comics, who will likely also appear in the 2018 solo film. So, who’s excited to see James Wan bring Aquaman’s world to life on the big screen and do you think the unique setting and characters will breathe new life into the superhero genre? Share your thoughts in the comments and then click here to find out what we’d like see happen in the movie when it arrives in theaters on July 27th, 2018. I’m Sinead de Vries, thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon with more movie news!
